April 11th and 12th:
Leila Kester created these workshops with dancers and teachers of dance, movement and Pilates teachers in mind.
Friday 18.30 – 21.15 (last 15 mins recap and questions). Abdominals, Why and How?
In this workshop I invite you to explore the function of the abdominals for dance and offer you a variety of exercises to train and challenge yourself and you students. Food for thought regarding your (self) cueing, breath, posture, balance, force-transmission and shock-absorption.
Saturday 9.30 – 12.15 (last 15 mins questions and recap) Workshop Turn Out
In this workshop I will share with you my experience and insights regarding this basic element in dance training. What moves relative to what? How can you truly initiate from the hip, what is the role of the trunk, placement of the pelvis? You will learn a variety of exercises, and we explore language and images to help you and your students gain optimal access and control in your given physical facility.
Saturday 13.15 – 15.45 (last 15 mins questions and recap) The Lower Limbs
Building on the previous workshops, we will investigate how to connect with the legs. Rethink the role of standing leg versus gesture leg, become aware of the continuous preparation and support that the standing leg provides, and at the same time work on more freedom in the gesture leg. I will also share strategies to improve access to fourth and fifth position
